Blog 58: “Bugger the economy- Let’s drink Burgundy”- Part 2

Following on from last post……

Bracket 2- Red Burgundy 2005-2009 with Springvale Farm rabitt risotto, green peas, porcini mushrooms and truffled parmesan

2007 Dujac Clos St Denis Grand Cru: dried strawberries, forest floor, hot cinammon lollies, fresh spice, very light and lifted, wintergreen notes- must have some whole berries/whole bunch type action. Super layers and depth of flavour, freshness, amazing concentration. My favourite of the bracket.

2006 Mongeard-Mugeret Echezeaux Grand Cru: meaty leather and toast, fresh violets, brilliant rustic characters, mineral stone, iron mongers shop. Lots of aniseed, cherry duck. Very powerful structure, alot of tannin.

2007 Frederic Magnien Echezeaux ‘La Belle Voisine’ Grand Cru: Fresh meats, charcuterie, forest floor notes, toast and smokey, smoky tequila character, cranberry. Alot of oak, but good oak. Looks touched by ‘new world’ hands!

2005 Domaine de la Vougeraie Nuits St.Georges ‘Les Damodes’ Premier Cru: matchstick and riverstone, some browning, slightly more age. Sweet vibrant fruits, ripe cedary, woody herb, some positive aldehyde and tar.

2007 Frederic Magnien Gevrey-Chambertin ‘La Belle Voisine’ Premier Cru: very ripe and rich, massive fruit burst and toasty fruits. Slight attenuation on the palate and nose, not as much complexity as the previous wines.
