This one is inspired by the original quince tree planted out the front of the old workers cottage at Oliver’s Taranga.
Unfortunately this tree had to be pulled out before our renovations as it was too close to the cottage and coming in through the windows!
But before it was pulled down we took cuttings from it and gave it to our local nursery (http://www.perrysfruitnursery.com.au/ ) who grafted it.
We replanted two trees out the back of cellar door/ workers cottage. Since then we have found many uses for quinces.
Nicky is the guru quince paste maker and for myself, Quince Tarte Tatin! I love it with a dollop of Maggie Beer Vanilla Bean and Elderflower Ice Cream (http://www.maggiebeer.com.au/home/)!
And of course an ice cold glass of Moscato!
You can find good Quince Tarte Tatin recipes online – a really good one is here: http://www.epicurious.com/recipes/food/views/Quince-Tarte-Tatin-236809
Enjoy… and during quince season, you can always ask us at cellar door for a couple to take home – we have loads!
