There’s over 300 of Italy’s finest wines to taste (and a great selection of Australian wines made from Italian grapes) and the chance to shop for salumi, cheese, pasta, butter, pastries, honey, gelato, bread, olive oil and more at the Gourmet Traveller Food Market. Our wine masterclasses presented byGourmet Traveller WINE, will be hosted by wine journalists Huon Hooke and Max Allen. There are four sessions to choose from, each an hour long and will feature ten exceptional wines with a panel of experts to share their knowledge and passion for Italian wine. Avoid disappointment – these classes sell out each year so reserve your seat now.
Australia’s top Italian cooks are turning out in force to make it a day to remember, with MasterChef favourites Giovanni Pilu (Pilu at Freshwater) and Alessandro Pavoni (Ormeggio) leading the charge. The teams from Sydney’s top Italian restaurants (Pilu at Freshwater, Ormeggio, Balla, A Tavola,Aperitivo, LuMi, ACME, Ajo, Osteria Russo & Russo and Capriccio among them) will be cooking up a storm with cooking demonstrations hosted by Joanna Savill and Roberta Muir, and food talks with chefs from the Council of Italian Restaurants in Australia (aka CIRA). Round out the day relaxing in the wine garden listening to live Italian jazz or take in an olive oil master class with Nino Zoccali from Pendolino.
We couldn’t ignore the popularity of last year’s Negroni Bar so it’s back with more Negroni happiness to share. This year we are so excited to introduce anEspresso Martini Bar. If you haven’t tried one – think indulgent creamy mix of espresso and vodka – yes please! Best of all, this year’s festival runs both night and day, with sessions running till 9pm. As night falls, some of the city’s younger Italian cooking talents will strut their stuff, and our resident DJ will spin tracks to keep the vibe pumping.
