Small Batch Wines  |  2011 Vermentino

Max Allen, Weekend Australian, August 2011

Oliver's Taranga Vineyards in McLaren Vale has released two southern Italian-accented 2011 whites: a tangy, savoury, lean and chalky vermentino and a slightly fuller, chewier, honey-spicy fiano (both $24; oliverstaranga.com). These are exactly the kinds of wines you want in the fridge or the Esky as the weather warms up and you develop a hankering for deep-fried, beer-battered whiting (or is that just me?). The Olivers also happen to be celebrating 170 years of winegrowing this year.
