Vintage Notes:

2007 was one of the worst drought years on record. Irrigation was crucial in 2007 as there was no sub-soil moisture when the vines started to grow and as a consequence the crops were very tiny. Oliver's vineyard crops were reduced by 70% on a normal year.

Totally opaque impenetrable black dark red colour with very deep black dark red hue. The nose delivers an intense aromatic profile of dark chocolate, liquorice allsorts, dark plum, blackberry and confectionary. Full bodied, opulent and rich the palate displays mouthfilling flavours at the darker end of the spectrum. Dark chocolate, very ripe blackberry, dark plum, confectionery and spice flavours are all wrapped in plush fleshy texture. Velvet smooth tannins. Superb length with very long aftertaste of mocha, blackberry, liquorice and spice. Drink over the next 3-4 years (2010-2014)

  • Jeremy Oliver, The Australian Wine Annual 2011, 94 Points

Close to an essential McLaren Vale Shiraz of the more rustic, earthy and meaty kind, this is a ripe and richly concentrated wine. Its smoky bouquet of dark, briary plum, blackberries and cassis reveals meaty, charry undertones of dark-chocolate oak backed by clove, nutmeg and cinnamon. It is velvet-smooth and fine-grained, with pure, smoky, chocolaty flavours of liqueur cherries and licorice, finishing long and savoury, mineral and meaty, with just a hint of spirit warmth. For drinking now or later

  • Robert Parker's The Wine Advocate, Dec 2009, 92 Points

The purple-colored 2007 Shiraz spent two years in 25% new French and American oak. It displays a superb perfume of balsam wood, spice box, violets, mineral, and blackberry. Dense and layered on the palate, pepper, game, and earth notes make an appearance leading to a structured, well-balanced, and lengthy finish. Give this classy effort 1-2 years of cellaring and drink it through 2019

Long, savoury and velvet-smooth, this deliciously ripe and voluptuous shiraz delivers dark, intense flavours of blackberries, cassis, dark plums and chocolate enhanced by a polished background of vanilla and cedar oak. Framed by long, fine-grained tannin, it's backed by meaty, smoky undertones and finishes with lingering sour-edged fruit and slightly salty notes of dark olives.
