Had a rather large storm last night- 35mm of rain, along with some thunder, lightening, intense wind and my least favourite of all- hail. The rain was very welcome- not so much the hail along with it!
I thought some of you may be interested in seeing just how much damage hail and wind can do to the new spring shoots on the vines. As you can see, lots of snapping of shoots, bruising, leaf loss and holes in leaves. There was only a small section of our vineyard that was significantly hit, but the damage will result in significant crop loss for next vintage. Luckily, there will be no negetive impact on quality. This is our Cemetery Block Shiraz looking pretty sad and sorry for itself.
