Today is International Cabernet Day- giving you an excuse to crack a Cab, and facebook/tweet/blog or post your comments about it. There are a number of places holding Cabernet Day tastings- we had one at d’Arenberg earlier today- and the Qwoff boys have a big one in Adelaide this evening.
Firstly- all the d’Arenberg crew were laughing at me as I turned up in our little Oliver’s Taranga tonka truck with my Cabernet’s in hand. Once I got over the teasing, got into the tasting.
Bought along our new 09 DJ Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon- for its first little outing. Not released for a few months- but I was pretty happy with where it is sitting- it is super plush & rich, lovely varietal lift on the nose. @darenberg said “@OliversTaranga new DJ gets a debut for #cabernetday – a bloody ripper.” @BosworthWines said “@OliversTaranga nice one the DJ 09 res cab @TheQwoffBoys #CabernetDay.”
My favourite was the newly released 09 Rifle & Hunt Cabernet Sauvignon from Pertaringa– cracker wine, looking lovely today- really bright & fresh and oh so smooth. Also some crackers from d’Arenberg- specially the Coppermine Road Cabernet, and a cheeky little infiltrater Cabernet from Coonawarra shone. Sue Bell’s 06 Bellwether Cabernet was stunning.
Basically here’s how you can get into Cabernet Day- where ever you are:
1.Get to one of the venues hosting a tasting event to sample a huge range of Cabernets- check out http://cabernet.eventbrite.com/
2.Get together with friends and ‘host your own’ lil party, bring a bottle and bang on about what you think of it, people are listening!
3.Park yourself on the couch with a glass in hand and share your thoughts with us.
4.Follow the twitter feed using the #CabernetDay hashtag via twitter to see what people are saying.
