History

History

With 300 acres of premium grapevines on the Taranga property, the Oliver family has over 50 blocks representing different grape varieties, clones, soil types & vine ages. Each vintage, different varieties & blocks will show their strength and from this has been born the ‘SMALL BATCH’ range. These wines have been handcrafted to speak of both the variety and the vintage in which they have been produced.

This is the fourth release of our Brioni’s Blend. As you know, we like to name our wines after family members, and Brioni had got away without one for too long. This iteration is a little different from the previous blends. This time Mataro (also known as Mourvedre) took the lead role, blended with the famous Portuguese variety Touriga and some Shiraz to round out the blend. Making the perfect special sauce to celebrate our Brioni.

Palate

Palate

Bright and medium bodied on the palate. Fresh red berry, quince floral flavours, with plenty of chalky tannin and driving acid to frame the palate. This is all fruit and all good!

The Year That Continued

The Year That Continued

Brioni has two small sons, Hugo and Kingsley. They all love cherry tomatoes, so Brioni planted a few bushes to keep them happy. The stars must have aligned for her planting timing and gardening skill, because these couple of plants kept around 5 families in tomatoes for the season! Hugo and Kingsley made deliveries to cellar door driving in their electric ride-on car through the vineyard each week, which was very entertaining in itself!

Your face lights up immediately when you meet Brioni. Her infectious smile brightens the room and this wine, much like her, brightens the mood big time. Vibrant and energetic, it's a blend of Mataro, Touriga and Shiraz. Loaded with juicy fruit, it's all party shoes on and let's get dancing. More like this please - it is an absolute beauty. The fruit bursts through. There is some weight but there is also balance with a cheeky personality. Laced with fine spices, it's moreish and smashable - the essence of sharing great wine with those around you. Blueberries, mulberries, redcurrants and dark cherries, it races for your attention with an energetic personality. Juicy tannins and some earthy feels wash through adding further appeal. The more I look at it though the more I think, "Bugger the notes, just drink it". And fundamentally, that's where this is at. I just want to pour, share and drink. Gimme all that slurpy goodness. A ripping red wine for so many occasions. Load up! 94 points

An incandescent purple hue alludes to the pulpy sass of purple fruits muddled with lilac, rose petals, dried thyme, tomato bush and anise waiting in store. The energy of semi-carbonic handling manifests as purple pastille and rosewater. The tannins a gentle nudge, rather than an astringent shove. A blend for the already enlightened, as much as future fans. Though no need to wait. Chill ever so slightly and gulp in large drafts. 91 points
