WINE & VINTAGE

This is the fourth release of our Brioni’s Blend. As you know, we like to name our wines after family
members, and Brioni had got away without one for too long. This iteration is a little different from the previous blends. This time Mataro (also known as Mourvedre) took the lead role, blended with the
famous Portuguese variety Touriga and some Shiraz to round out the blend. Making the perfect special sauce to celebrate our Brioni.

HISTORY

With 300 acres of premium grapevines on the Taranga property, the Oliver family has over 50 blocks representing different grape varieties, clones, soil types & vine ages. Each vintage, different varieties & blocks will show their strength and from this has been born the β€˜SMALL BATCH’ range. These wines have been handcrafted to speak of both the variety and the vintage in which they have been produced.

WHAT THE WRITERS HAVE TO SAY

2022
James Halliday Wine Companion 2021

A blend of touriga, mataro and shiraz. A very interesting bouquet of dark chocolate, spice, fresh earth and blackberry, all translated to the palate, that is full of juicy flavours and buttressed by tannins

Let's set the record straight - Brioni is a gun. She's such an easy person to chat and she's not afraid to roll up the sleeves - quite literally. Be it driving the fork truck, lending a hand in the winery or even competing in the world championships for Cross Fit, she also finds time to be a mum. Respect! This wine is named after her - a tribute to the mums ripping in and making the most of life.

A curious blend of Touriga, Mataro and Shiraz (65/25/10) that works a treat. Grab a piece of protein on your plate and you're in business. I cooked a beef brisket for seven hours before unleashing this and the reward was divine.

Pretty scents waft from the glass with ease. Think dried purple flowers, violets, jubes and raspberry rope. Energetic blueberries and blackberry fruit coat the mouth with ease. There's a magnetism to the juicy fruit and lingering aniseed which draws you in as you keep trying to dissect the expressive aromas. Seeing only old French oak, it's drying to close with soft pillows of chalky tannins coating the palate. All up, it's simply delicious. Empty glasses seem to follow this with ease - an extra point for that!

A well-suited blend to these parts, with mataro the assertive ferrous element, touriga the soaring florals and grenache, the hedonic mid palate, kirsch and bergamot. Pulpy and fresh. Dense and yet somehow, cool of aura, such is the quality of 2021.
