WINE & VINTAGE

Fiano is relatively new variety to Australia, and originates from the Campania region of Italy. Fiano is super heat and drought tolerant, being able to maintain acidity in the grapes even in our hot South Australian summers. This minimal intervention Fiano is made with indigenous yeast, has no added acid and our 2022 Fiano includes a small portion fermented in French oak.

WHAT THE WRITERS HAVE TO SAY

2022 Vintage
Jeni Port - Wine Pilot

This is the scent of spring, of apple blossom, citrus and just a hint of the fruit power to come. It is fragrant and enticing. Settles into something quite serious on the palate with a greater weight and texture immediately apparent. There’s a steeliness, too. The 2022 vintage was a stunner across much of South Australia providing the background to this delightful fiano, which combines fruit intensity and structure. The winemaker, Corrina Wright, knows the grape well and in a top vintage flavours are enriched. Fresh cut Nashi pear, apple and spice with white peach peeping in shows real depth, while a lick of chervil-line herbals frame the edges. A steely acidity binds it all together. Australian fiano keeps going from strength to strength.

Ken Gargett - Wine Pilot

Fiano is perhaps the most exciting of the new white varieties we are seeing from Italy and abroad. From the Campania region of Italy, this grape is all about texture. To enhance that, the team use indigenous yeasts and have started to include small portions matured in old French oak. This is a really good example of the variety. Pale lemon in colour, there is some early complexity and yet the wine remains fresh and crisp, with notes of nuts, herbs, apples and pears. A hint of stonefruit. Really well constructed, there is power on the palate and impressive length. And of course, that seductive texture. This will drink beautifully for two to three years, likely longer, and may even rate a notch higher in that time. Lots to like here. Loved the 2021 – this is just as good.

QWine Reviews

They call Corrina Wright the Queen of Fiano, a fitting title I must say. Here she goes again working her magic with this 2022 release. A brilliant wine awaits. Stand and applaud. This is a damn good drink. Find the sunshine and surround yourself with smiley people and plentiful plates of fresh seafood over a long lunch. Seaspray, tonic feels, white flowers and green apples set this alight. Layered with interest, it eagerly awaits you to peel off every veneer. A flash of nuttiness chimes in too. Crisp and gorgeously balanced, dash of lemon sits on the tail of pear and white-fleshed nectarine fruit with a flicker of white pepper to close. Just awesome! Drink to three years.
