History
With 300 acres of premium grapevines on the Taranga property, the Oliver family has over 50 blocks representing different grape varieties, clones, soil types & vine ages. Each vintage, different varieties & blocks will show their strength and from this has been born the ‘SMALL BATCH’ range. These wines have been handcrafted to speak of both the variety and the vintage in which they have been produced.
Aroma
Sour cherry, slight sarsaparilla and cherry cola note, black plum. Brambly perfume.
Wine & Vintage
Tempranillo is fast becoming a preferred variety in McLaren Vale, with its more savoury notes and rustic charm. Encourage you to seek out more Tempranillo and enjoy it with great food and great friends. 2023 had a long slow ripening period making for perfect flavour and tannin development in our Tempranillo. Unfortunately, a storm during flowering resulted in a significant crop loss, so there isnt much Tempranillo around in 2023. Get on board quick!
Palate
Amazing savoury tannin framing the palate, layers of dark berry flavours, spice and mouthwatering acidity. Plenty of fleshy fruit and screaming out for some food to match!
The Year That Continued
Is there anything better than fresh figs off the tree? Yes, it turns out. After a looooong vintage day in the winery and vineyard, a tray of warm, delicious, gooey fig tarts arriving at the winery, made by Mel's mum with love - is so much better. Having a cheeky glass of Tempranillo as you hoe down 3 or 4 in one mouthful, just adds to the experience!

Reviews
Another strong Tempranillo release that celebrates the beauty of youth, a wine bursting in ripe black fruits and red cherries with a spicy kick. It’s all about the fruit, but this is not to suggest that it is simple. Far from it. Red liquorice, spices, cassia bark with a hint of panforte and summer berry aromas. Medium bodied with clean cut tannins, the middle palate is warm and comforting, finishing fine-edged. A supporting role of hazelnut oak and sour cherry, cranberry savouriness delivers that extra flavour touch. 92 points

Another Spanish star, Tempranillo may be more at home in Rioja but is really making waves down here and McLaren Vale seems ideally suited to it. The colour is that of black cherries. The flavours dark and concentrated, with roast meats and leather, dry herbs and soy, licorice and cherry. A wine of medium length, there are abundant tannins yet pleasingly fine. The concentration continues throughout the wine. Enjoy over the next four to six years. 92 points

Deep, bright purple-red colour; savoury aromas of terra cotta, anise and dark plum, the palate medium bodied and straightforward but bright, clean and balanced, with fine powdery tannins that are in harmony with the whole. Well-made wine. 90 points
