NEW RELEASE

2024 Falanghina

$35.00 / bottle

Falan….what?!?!? Don’t worry if you haven’t yet heard of Falanghina, it’s very new to Australia. It hails from the same region as Fiano, in Campania around Naples, and we are very excited to now have it planted in the Taranga vineyard.

This Falanghina (pron Fah-Lahn-Gee-Nah) is made with minimal intervention in a concrete egg. Tangy and textural, this wine will make you feel like you’re on the Amalfi coast.

History

History

With 100 ha of premium grapevines on the Taranga property, the Oliver family has over 50 blocks representing different grape varieties, clones, soil types & vine ages. Each vintage, different varieties & blocks will show their strength and from this has been born the ‘SMALL BATCH’ range. Made in small batches of less than two tonnes, these wines have been handcrafted to speak of both the variety and the vintage in which they have been produced.

Aroma

The Year That Continued

The Year That Continued

We have been waiting for Falanghina for such a long time. Wine industry legends, the Chalmers Family, have long been bringing in new to Australia Italian grape varieties. Did you know that there are thousands of Italian varieties, dwarfing the number of typically French varietals that were planted in Australia. It is a very long process to get a new grape variety into Australia. We have very strict importation of plant matter laws here for good reason, we would hate to have a pest introduced that spoilt our natural environment. However, because of this, it takes somewhere around 10 years to get a vine cutting through quarantine. Once it is out, you still don’t really know how it will translate to the wine regions of Australia, so it is a very long process indeed. We have been on the wait-list to get this variety for a long time, and now it is finally here! Corrina was enthralled by the variety during her visits to Campania over the years and hopes that this first iteration does the variety justice.

The edible delights of Falanghina can be found here. A buffet fit for Pooh Bear. Blush peaches, apricot, Meyer lemon and jars of oozing honey. Cashew praline, honeysuckle blossoms and nectar. The palate rounds the corner with its U-turn of dryness and then explodes with candied pear, peach and dried mango. Swiftly followed by halva, roast almond butter and cumin. Excellent example of the variety grown by the sea and sun of McLaren Vale. Drink now–2027. 95pts
