Fresh and zingy, redcurrant, dusting of pepper, subtle rose petal pefume. Lively, not too sweet though it certainly eases the way, clean acidity, juicy fresh red fruit – redcurrant – and a clean, crisp water-coloured finish. Simple, but very good to drink well chilled.

A new variety in a long-established McLaren Vale vineyard, this is the first release - in small quantities- of a delicious dry rose that has fresh redcurrant and spice notes and is great for late summer.

The first vintage of a newly imported variety from Spain. Bright, clear purple-crimson; the expectation is (given the low alcohol) that it will be off-dry, but it is in fact bone dry, with red berry, lemon zest and crunchy acidity. Fascinating.

One would assume as the Mencia vines age the fruit might get sent to a more serious wine, but hopefully some is set aside to create this delicious rose. It's at once meaty, smoky, light, fine and spicy, with only a gentle lick of sweetness. 92 points.

Mencia produces fragrant and supple reds in north-west Spain but Corrina Wright is taking it in a perky, pink direction, having recently planted the variety in McLaren Vale. Its a beautifully alluring cranberry colour, with vibrant raspberry and red currant aromas and enervating the palate with crunchy acidity. 4 stars.

I'm slowly working my way through the samples sent to me from Oliver's winemaker Corrina Wright but am so glad I tucked into this one now. My first crack at Mencia and while it is in a Rose form, I like it!From what I can gather, a variety that is often made in a lighter style, this is an awesome dry style of Rose, perfect for those red wine drinkers that want something a little lighter and for those white wine drinkers that want a red.On the nose this shows great floral notes and strawberry fruit. The palate continues the sweet strawberries through, joined by a little earthiness. A really nice acidity to it that is well balanced by the slightly dry finish just making your mouth want more! One to certainly keep an eye on and if you want to impress at that Saturday BBQ this'll be one to get your hands on.RATING: 8/10WEBSITE: www.oliverstaranga.comPRICE: $24
