Small Batch Wines | 2007 Grenache
The very hot & drought effected vintage of 2007, resulted in some miniscule crop levels, which certainly suit the typically heavier cropping Grenache variety. This is the second year that Oliver’s Taranga have kept some of our old vine Grenache to make into wine. Grenache has such a lovely spicy character, and it is a variety that McLaren Vale does very well.
- Ben Thomas, Decanter, 2010
This grenache, mixed with 5 per cent shiraz, is a wine with voluptuous floral aromas of strawberries, rich cherry and tar. For a wine with quite a high alcohol level this is rather light in colour and weight but there are intense flavours of cherry, strawberry and savoury, earthy notes. Its tannins are ripe and drying and there is a long, spicy finish to complete this wine.
- Lonely Grape, Aug 2009
The wine has a lighter colour that I would normally expect from a McLaren Vale Grenache, however this does not take anything away from the wine. With a perfumed nose with hints of stewed plums followed by a flavour packed mouth full of plums, cherries with hints of pepper. Bring on Mums Sunday Lamb Roast with a bottle or 2 of this wine.
- Tony Harper, Brisbane News, Dec 2007
What seperates Oliver's Cadenzia Grenache from the rest of the McLaren Vale Cadenzia series is its relative elegance. It is more medium bodied and succulent than it is dense and powerful. In Oliver's case, less is more.
