M53 Shiraz 2014 M53 Shiraz

M53 is the original horse and cattle brand used by our ancestors on the ‘Taranga’ property in the 1880’s. Back then it marked our finest herd, now it marks our finest wine.
Released only in exceptional vintages, the M53 is a rare beast and made in tiny volumes. The inaugural 2010 release was given a wow and 96 points from James Halliday.

The hunt for Mrs Oliver Fiano Méthode Traditionnelle 2016 The hunt for Mrs Oliver Fiano Méthode Traditionnelle

En primeur or "wine futures" is a method of purchasing wines early while the wine (a vintage) is still in the cellar. This offers the customer the opportunity to secure their stocks before the wine is disgorged .  Payment is made at an early stage, prior to the official release of a vintage.

Weaving along the garden path, the hunt is always on.  Lost in the flora you may find her, in-between the offbeat pots.  Tending to everything from topiary to mowing the front lawn; the search can be a long one, under the beating Fleurieu sun.  But you can rest assured, she will always leave small clues; scribbled on cut-up envelope, even hidden in your food.  When you finally find her, there will be a sweet reward; for Marjorie is a flower - a crown our family proudly adorns.

Reserve Wines
DJ Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon 2013 DJ Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon

This is the fifth release of the DJ Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon. This wine is dedicated to Don ‘DJ’ Oliver, the 5th generation and current caretaker of the prized Oliver’s Taranga Vineyards. Born in post-war McLaren Vale, as a young boy after school Don would ride the family’s Clydesdales bareback to the stables
after helping out in the vineyards. Dons impressive viticultural work saw him receive the inaugural McLaren Vale Grape Growers Association ‘Excellence in Viticulture’ Trophy. This wine is a testament to Don’s passion
for grapegrowing, and his continual efforts to grow the best fruit possible.

HJ Reserve Shiraz 2006 HJ Reserve Shiraz

The hot and dry 2006 vintage was off the back of a very wet spring, allowing for great development of flavour on the Taranga vineyard. A strong vintage for the region.

Vintages: 2006 | 2001

Shiraz 2007 Shiraz

2007 was one of the worst drought years on record. Irrigation was crucial in 2007 as there was no sub-soil moisture when the vines started to grow, and as a consequence the crops were very small. Oliver’s vineyard crops were reduced by 70% on a normal year. What we lost in quantity, we gained in quality.

Small Batch Wines

Chica Mencia Rose 2017 Chica Mencia Rose

Mencia is a native variety of Spain, in particular the Bierzo region in the north-west of the country.  It has been enjoying a rebirth of prominance in its home country, and Oliver's Taranga are the first to plant it in Australia.

Corrina’s Shiraz Cabernet Blend 2015 Corrina’s Shiraz Cabernet Blend

The ‘stars aligned and the vines combined’ again for us in 2015. The Corrina’s Shiraz Cabernet is made via a technique called co-fermentation where by the fruit is blended in the vineyard and fermented as one. Rather than making a separate Shiraz wine and Cabernet wine and blending afterwards. This is a very old technique, and is a favourite of our winemaker for this wine. It does mean that the Corrina’s isn’t made every year as we
need to make sure that we have Cabernet (typically later ripening) and Shiraz ripe at the same time.

$32.00 $25.00
Fiano 2017 Fiano

Fiano is relatively new variety to Australia, and originates from the Campania region of Italy. Fiano is super heat and drought tolerant, being able to maintain acidity in the grapes even in our hot South Australian summers. This minimal intervention Fiano is made with indigenous yeast, has no added acid and is made without the use of oak.

Grenache 2016 Grenache

The 2016 vintage was a low-cropping one, and this resulted in exceptional intensity of flavour. Grab a bottle, crank the wood
oven pizzas and rejoice- 179 years after it was first planted on out Taranga vineyard, Grenache has finally reached the heights of
cool. A Grenache won the Jimmy Watson and McLaren Vale Bushing trophies in
2017, and is one of our all-time favourites on the Taranga vineyard.

Mencia 2016 Mencia

Never tasted Mencia before? May as well start now! A new variety to Australia from its home in Spain, it’s packed with flavour. Made in the ‘joven’ style – meaning that it has limited oak and is fresh and slurpy and ready to drink.

Moscato 2017 Moscato

Moscato is made from the White Frontignac grape- which is renowned for its floral and fruity characters. This is the perfect grape to make a Moscato style which is low in alcohol and has a slight spritz.

Sagrantino 2014 Sagrantino

We love working with this rare Italian variety in our vineyard, especially for its more savoury notes and rustic charm. We use old French oak only on this wine, letting the varietal characteristics stand out. Sagrantino has its original home in Montefalco in Umbria, Italy- but we like to think it has found a new home with us in McLaren Vale.

Vine Dried Cabernet Sauvignon 2013 Vine Dried Cabernet Sauvignon

In the spirit of trying new things, we had a bit of a play with some spectacular Cabernet from our vineyard. We turned to the Amarone method that has been used for centuries in Italy. A portion of the vineyard was handpicked and then dried in the air racks for 10 days. After the berries have concentrated and dehydrated slightly, straight into the fermenter they go. The fresh picked grapes are crushed on top, and the fermentation continues as normal.

Fortified Wines
Ruthless Ruth Liqueur Muscat 350ml NV Ruthless Ruth Liqueur Muscat 350ml

Archibald Oliver inherited 800 acres of the family property when pioneer William passed away in 1888, but it was Archibald's stern Ruth, whom he married in 1879, that kept the family business in health while Archibalds and his brothers led a more scurrilous lifestyle. Records show grape payments made by 'Kay Brothers' in 1925 to 'Mrs Oliver' whose husband Archibald had long since passed.

The Banished Fortified Grenache (500ml) NV The Banished Fortified Grenache (500ml)

We have had to practice a lot of patience while adding small amounts to our fortified over the last 20 years, with just the odd sneak down to the port shed for a little taste.....

Olive Oil
‘Ambush Hill’ Red Wine Vinegar ‘Ambush Hill’ Red Wine Vinegar

Ambush Hill can be defined as the act of waiting in a concealed position in order to launch a suprise attack.  Just like it's namesake this Red Wine Vinegar from Oliver's Taranga Vineyards is bottled and when released performs a dance on the tastebuds.

1841 Extra Virgin Olive Oil 1841 Extra Virgin Olive Oil

Olives have always been planted on the Oliver’s Taranga property, so we have worked with local olive oil makers,  the Scarfo family to produce this flavoursome extra virgin olive oil each year.
