History

IHANA - Finnish for wonderful or fantastic - a word Valtteri reserves for the truly exceptional. The collaboration of Valtteri Bottas x Oliver’s Taranga is just that - a celebration of competitive craftsmanship. The stubborn pursuit of excellence is a common thread for Valtteri Bottas and sixth generation grape grower Corrina Wright. And a wine made by two such driven perfectionists was only ever going to be ‘Ihana’, the very word uttered on Valtteri’s first taste. Finding a second home in South Australia, Valtteri’s love for exploring our landscapes and wine regions has led to an inevitable conclusion; the wines of these rolling McLaren Vale vineyards are amongst the very best in the world.

All dusty chopped chocolate, cherry berry, vanilla and roasted meats.

Wine & Vintage

2023 was the third year in a row impacted by La Nina, which meant a long cool ripening period and solid rains leading up to harvest, plenty of opportunity to ripen the Shiraz perfectly.

Palate

Edition #2 brings a concentration of lavish dark fruits, a subtle hint of aromatic mustikka (bilberry) with plenty of intensity and elegance.

"A collaboration between Oliver’s Taranga and Finnish Formula 1 driver Valtteri Bottas, this was picked from two blocks (vines 35 and 10 years old) and matured in French oak (20% new). It’s woven from a different cloth to the other pinnacle bottlings at this address. Brightly fruited – blackberry, plum and cherry – and sleek, a little reductive presently, with a sheen of classy oak and feeling less earthy and rugged than the older vine HJ. (Ihana is a superlative, translating as 'wonderful' or the like, by the way.) This is a fine expression, rich but streamlined and oh-so polished. It’s a fine debut." 95 points for 2022 vintage

"Only 5,000 bottles are made of this stunning McLaren Vale Shiraz given the Finnish name ‘Ihana’, which translates as wonderful. For someone who loves Finland, I could not be more excited – even more so as it is such a thrilling wine. Opaque maroon, this is intense, well balanced and showing some very early complexity. Florals, chocolate, leather, tar, cloves, dry herbs and mocha notes. A richly flavoured, generous and supple McLaren Vale Shiraz with good extraction, impressive intensity and incredible length. And yet, perhaps a little surprisingly, the wine still has elegance. For me, this just might be the best wine Corrina and her team have made. It would certainly be a contender. Fifteen to twenty years." 97 points for 2022 vintage
