Fiano

Fiano: the white wine you’ll want in your glass this summer

This summer, Fiano will be the wine on everyone’s lips, and you don’t need a ticket to Italy to enjoy it…

And that’s because this crisp, fresh, textural Italian white is just as at home here in Australia, and there are plenty of styles to choose from to find your favourite.

Hailing from the Campania region of Southern Italy, Fiano is also a foodie’s best friend, add a little sunshine and an ocean breeze and you’ll really see why we’re so obsessed.

That’s why we’re having a Fiano Festa in 2025, celebrating the very first International Fiano Day on October 17th, and you’re invited!

How does Fiano taste?

Not tried Fiano before, and keen to know what you’re getting into?

Well Fiano is a lively and textured wine — one minute it’s all pine nuts and cashew, the next it’s kaffir lime and fresh basil with a touch of fresh peach, pear and elderflower.

With a few years in a bottle, Fiano can also develop moreish spice and complexity – those who are into their wine will love it.

So share it with confidence, or if you just want to sit back and choose something new and interesting for yourself, then don’t be shy, we think you’ll love it.

Recipes that love Fiano!

If you’re a foodie, then you have also found your new best friend, because Fiano can handle so many cuisines, from being the crisp accompaniment to ocean fresh seafood, to the textural complement to creamy pasta, to the perfect partner when things get spicy!

Refreshing, and delicious, and perfect with food – what more could you want from a wine?

Try a few of our favourite recipes to see what we mean:

Meet the Queen of Fiano

“Locally known as ‘The Queen of Fiano’, Corrina Wright knows her way around the variety and it shows.” Decanter Magazine.

Having championed the variety for over 20 years, and as President of the Alternative Varietals Wine Show, there’s no one better to introduce you to Fiano than Corrina Wright. Inspired by her trip to Campania over a decade ago, the Oliver family planted the varietal in McLaren Vale in 2004.

Since then, Corrina has been able to really get to know Fiano, experimenting with several styles – from our award winning Estate Fiano, to The Hunt for Mrs Oliver Méthode Traditionelle Sparkling to the very small volume Anfore Fiano, aged in terracotta clay vessels.

Corrina is not your average winemaker – she’s the original Fiano Fantatic, you can trust that she’ll continue to educate wine lovers until they catch on to Fiano – what else would you expect from the Queen?

Oliver's Taranga Fiano

What kind of Fiano will you choose?

We’re proud to have three different styles of Fiano at Oliver’s Taranga.

Our Estate Fiano is focused on capturing pure varietal goodness – expect a wine that brings the crisp, freshness of the variety alongside that creamy textural element that is textbook Fiano. A great one to try if you haven’t explored the variety before, or if you’re already in love, be prepared to stock up on this one!

If you like a little fizz in your life, then perhaps opt for The Hunt for Mrs Oliver Méthode Traditionelle Sparkling, named for Corrina’s beloved Grandmother Marjorie Oliver (née Hunt). Made in the same way as a traditional Champagne, Fiano’s natural acidity and texture lend themselves perfectly to this utterly delicious sparkling wine. And if there’s any left, you can take this to the next level, with our limited release Late Disgorged 2017 The Hunt for Mrs Oliver Fiano Sparkling that spent years ageing quietly on yeast lees before being released in 2025.

Or if you really want to see a new side to Fiano, then Corrina’s passion project, the small-batch Anfore Fiano might be your choice. So impressed by the textural wines she experienced in Italy, Corrina was determined to sneak a small parcel of the very best Fiano into a terracotta clay amphora and let it age. The result is this amazing wine, and though there is little of it, it is well worth the effort!
