Small Batch Wines | 2014 Fiano
Fergus McGhie, June 23rd, 2014
I think I am in love with fiano. It's possible I've reviewed every vintage of the Oliver's Taranga since the first in glowing terms. I've not checked that but it's just a feeling and if I've missed a vintage it's more likely an oversight rather than a dislike for a particular year.
I think McLaren Vale might also be in love with fiano. The relatively warm, coastal climate seems to suit the variety. When you match the right variety with its most suitable climate you get the perfect match.
This 2014 is a delicious wine, crunchy and fresh but with some delicious texture and weight on the palate. The flavours are reminiscent of granny smith apples and green pears. There's beguiling aromas of honeysuckle adding to the intrigue of the wine. The finish is clean and crisp with a fine line of tingling acidity carrying the flavours to the end.

Loads of pine nut and cashew texture through the palate, sweet fruit roundness, great tannins and mouth feel
