Small Batch Wines | 2006 Cabernet Sauvignon
The hot & dry 2006 vintage was off the back of a very wet spring, allowing for great development of flavour on the Taranga vineyard. This wine was made using a traditional Italian technique of drying a portion of the grapes on the vines, prior to picking them for fermentation. This results is a super intense wine, with huge tannin structure. Our winemaker has been excited with the results from this first vintage of Vine-Dried Cabernet, and looks forward to using this technique into the future.

If you can find some of this, grab it. It’s a luscious, lovely red, full of dust – shot blackcurrant flavour and super- viscous and smooth through the finish. In terms of big reds, it’s essentially perfect. It rings very long through the most supple tannin structure ever invented (OK, maybe I exaggerate – but I like it!) It’s not simple either, it’s got the lot

25% of the grapes for this wine have been left to dry out on the vine, thereby concentrating the flavour- Amarone style. Totally opaque black purple colour with black purple hue. Flavours of mocha, dark chocolate and coffee emerge over a background of spice and blackcurrant. The palate is very concentrated, with flavours of ripe blackcurrant and spice, laced with mocha and ripe plum. Fine, slightly chalky tannins. Very long aftertaste of liquorice, blackcurrant and prune.
